Florence County School District is honored to receive scholarship funding for a Florence High School senior with aspirations to continue their post-secondary studies in the natural sciences and pursue a degree in fisheries, wildlife, forestry, soils, geology, biology, or environmental studies. To qualify for consideration, eligible seniors were required to submit as part of their application an outline of their high school achievements and future plans in their chosen field. This year the Florence County Land Scholarship in Memory of Robert R. Peterson in the amount of $5,247.07, will be awarded to FHS senior Caitlyn Kelley. Caitlyn is the daughter of Ed and D’Nelle Kelley of Florence. She is the 2023 FHS Valedictorian. Her athletic ability is evident in her two-time WIAA State Wrestling Champion titles, and she has also been named a two-time Academic All-State award winner, ASA Photographer of the Year, and a HOPE Creative Writing Contest winner. Caitlyn plans to attend the University of Stevens Point to pursue a degree in Biology, leading to a career as a physician assistant.

Florence High School Freshmen who were eligible for the 30-Day Challenge went to the Potawatomi Community Center in Crandon. To be eligible, students needed to have no missing assignments, no failing grades, no unexcused absences, and fewer than 3 majors for the first 30 days.

Gavin Holdaway received a $12,000 scholarship from Billerud Paper Mill to attend NWTC and signed his commitment to working there after graduation.
