Hi-Q

Hi-Q is a quiz bowl style competition that was founded in Delaware in 1948. It is the oldest continuing academic competition in the United States that has been expanded to include schools from Wisconsin, Michigan, Washington, Maine, Arkansas, and Alabama. It is sponsored by the Farmers & Merchants Bank & Trust of Marinette, WI, the Kimberly-Clark Corporation, and the University of Wisconsin-Marinette.

Locally, the Florence Hi-Q team is part of an 18 team region which includes all high schools in Florence, Marinette, and Oconto Counties in Wisconsin, and three high schools from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Teams compete in three regular season matches, answering questions about Government, History, Mathematics, Literature, Science, Current Events, Art, and Sports. Hi-Q is open to students in grades 9-12. Our team consists of eight members chosen through a tryout test in late November; answering questions that would be similar to the ones read in the competition. Matches take place in January and February, with Regional Semi Finals and Finals taking place in March. The top team from the region earns the right to compete in the National Competition in April.
