The School District of Florence County & The Bobcat Bistro organized by Mrs. Hoiby and partnered with Special Olympics Wisconsin hosted the first Florence Unified Field Day. We are extremely proud and humbled to host an event which allows students who receive special education services to socialize with peers in an unified event through leisure and physical activities. We had Volunteers from Special Olympics Wisconsin, Florence High School National Honor Society, and Florence High School Torpedoes club welcome students from Florence, Niagara, and Beecher-Dunbar-Pembine School districts. Thank you to all who participated and volunteered to make this event a huge success.

He of course had words of encouragement and praise for all staff, and also enjoyed the last day traditional elementary school sendoff 😊. “Students in Mrs. Johnson’s 7th grade social studies classes are in the process of studying economics. As part of the unit they were challenged with creating a business. Here are some pictures of their business day where they could buy and sell student-made products using the classroom created currency.”

The Tim Touchett Legacy Scholarship was established in 2015, in memory of former FHS graduate Staff Sergeant Tim Touchett who passed away in 2014 after complications from surgery meant to embolize an arteriovenous fistula that ruptured near his brain stem. Money is raised for this scholarship through an annual corn-hole tournament held every summer in Delavan, Wisconsin. This year the Touchett family awarded their scholarship to Makenzie Niehaus. Mackenzie is the daughter of Ben and Melanie Niehaus of Florence. She is ranked number four in her class with a GPA of 3.963. During her time in high school Kenzie has earned a total of twenty-eight college credits, with one of her favorite classes being Introduction to Business Law. Kenzie is president of Florence’s chapter of the National Honor Society. She also is a member of the forensics team, TORPEDOS (Together Our Responsibility Publicly Embraces Direction and Opportunity), and a member of the Florence band and jazz band. Outside of school, Kenzie is an active member within her church. During her high school years Kenzie has maintained either high honor roll or superior honor roll and has earned various class outstanding achievement awards, music performance awards, and forensics awards. After graduating high school Kenzie is attending the University of Wisconsin Green Bay for a bachelor’s degree in Social Work. With this degree Kenzie hopes to attend law school to fulfill her dream of becoming a child advocacy lawyer.

Congratulations to Kamdan Johnson, Patrick Milan, & Blake Smith for qualifying for the state track finals on June 3rd & 4th in LaCrosse. Kamdan will be competing in the 400 meter run, Patrick in the 200 meter run, & Blake in the 300 meter hurdles & the long jump.
