More and more people are using their phones while driving, and it’s making our roads in Florence County less safe. It’s not just teens—drivers of all ages are tempted to check emails, send texts, scroll social media, or do other things on their devices while behind the wheel. That kind of distraction can lead to serious accidents, and nobody wants that. Remember, the average fine for using your phone in Wisconsin while driving is $173, plus four demerit points on your license. And unfortunately, the real cost could be even higher if something goes wrong. So, next time you’re driving, put the phone down and give your full attention to the road. Let’s all do our part to keep everyone safe! This message is brought to you by the Florence County Traffic Safety Commission, a collective of agencies from across the county working together to keep our roads safe!

Nine Florence High School seniors recently completed six college credits as a part of the University of Wisconsin- Green Bay’s College Credit in High School program. Students earned credits in Writing Foundations 100 and Psychology 102. These courses are taught by an accredited staff member at Florence High School. The students have earned a combined 54 credits from UW Green Bay saving each student approximately $1,000 per class— or $18,000 for the group. Taking college credits in high school have many tangible benefits for our district’s students. These courses help to decrease the time needed for college or technical school degree completion. Also, the students can learn the rigor required to pass college coursework in the comfort of Florence High School. #GoFloCats
