5K Community Explorers: A Year of Learning Through Play and Field Trips
This year, Miss Johnson's and Mrs. Merhalski's 5K class is embarking on an exciting journey to discover the heart of our community through hands-on dramatic play and real-life visits. The 5K classroom is transformed into a vibrant space filled with dramatic play areas where students eagerly explore roles and jobs that help keep our neighborhood running smoothly. Throughout the year, students will be exploring a new local place and learning about the people who help make our neighborhood special.
We kicked off the year with our students becoming little veterinarians and caring for their furry patients. They learned how to care for animals by practicing kindness and responsibility. Later, a field trip to the Nose to Tail Animal Hospital gave them the chance to meet real vets, see gentle animals, and understand the work involved in keeping pets healthy.
Next, our brave firefighters took center stage! Kids suited up in our own dramatic play fire station area, learning about safety, teamwork, and courage. We then took a trip to the Florence Fire Station where we toured the trucks, tried on helmets, and met the firefighters who protect our community every day.
Thank you to those of you who have participated thus far and be on the look out for our next Exploration.... It just might be you!

💚💛 Standing Together Against Bullying 💛💚

As a district, we recognize that bullying is a serious issue affecting students nationwide—and we’re committed to ensuring every student feels safe, respected, and supported at school.

Bullying is a challenge faced by many schools. According to the National Center for Education Statistics, about 1 in 5 students ages 12–18 report being bullied, and roughly 22% experience it online or through text messages. It’s also more common in middle school (26%) than in high school (16%). Although these numbers are national statistics, they remind us that this is a local issue as well; one that calls for continued awareness, education, and compassion for all.

Yesterday, our staff and students wore orange to show unity and remind us all of the importance of standing together against bullying. 🧡

Let’s continue to be kind, speak up, and stand together—because one small act of kindness can change someone’s day. 💚

Florence Utilities Donates to Florence County Schools Fablab!

Florence Utilities, in partnership with WPPI Energy, has made a $1,000 donation to Florence County Schools and the Florence Fablab. Mrs Gajewski was able to help Florence Utilities with a laser engraving project that not only provided a quick turnaround but also provided cost savings to the utility. “Florence Utilities is proud to support and invest in the future of our students and community,” said Roger Secrist, [Utility Manager of Florence Utilities]. “This Fablab has
shown to inspire creativity, problem-solving, and innovation—skills that will serve our students and local economy for years to come.” These donations were made possible through Value of Local Utility funding from the utility’s not-for-profit power supplier WPPI Energy that are provided to Florence Utilities to support their local community.
