We at the School District of Florence County want to extend our continued condolences and support to our students, parents, staff, and community. We hope the following web-based grief resources may be useful in helping us as a community support our students through the challenges that the next days, weeks, and even months might bring. Please feel free to explore these sites and take from them anything that may be useful. There are many more helpful resources out there, but the following list provides a sound foundation.

https://www.nasponline.org/resources-and-publications/resources/school-safety-and-crisis/addressing-grief (This is a brief guide to understanding the behavioral nature of grief in children at various ages, including some specific things to do as well as to avoid.)

https://www.dougy.org/grief-resources/how-to-help-a-grieving-teen/ (This article provides a good summary of the basic principles of supporting a teen grieving a loss)

https://www.dougy.org/grief-resources/how-to-help-a-grieving-child (This article offers ideas for effectively supporting children grieving a loss)

https://grievingstudents.org/module-section/what-not-to-say/ (Although designed for primarily for teachers as they talk to their students, this short video and module summary provide ideas for effectively expressing compassion and concern to anyone experiencing a loss.)

We encourage anyone in need to also contact an area church, the Florence County Department of Human Services (715-528-3296),  or the School District of Florence County (715-528-3217) for additional information about local supports and resources.
